Wellington, Friday. The Railway Commissioners have received a telegram to the effect that a portion of the railway line at Bonnie Creek, near Turakina, on the Palmerston-Wanganui line, has been washed away, and the through traffio is impeded. It is expected that an interchange of passengers will be effected by up and down trains if the dray road is passable. Wanganui, Friday. " --"'° st flood ever known in ! The a morning. Wanganui came down iu».. . Taupo Quay is partly submerged. Some punts and many boats have been washed to sea. Pahiatua, Friday. Six inches of rain fell here Inst night. The river is flooded. A slip has occurred on the Gorge railway and road, also on the WoodvillePahiatua road. Traffic is stopped. Coachmen had to exchange vehicles this morning, The water is inside the .buildings in Murphy's and Saiflel'fl hotels in Woodvir *, »
Auckland, February 18. Tho weather during the past two days has been of a singular character, there having been a heavy downpour of rain, with tho air close and and muggy. To-day, though rain has ceased, the atmosphere lias been oppressively warm. Hokitika, February 18. The past week or so has been intensely hot, with beautiful sunsets, This evening heavy rain set in from tbo north, Feildino, February 18, The rainfall for the 24 hours onded at 9.20 this morning was 8} inches, being the greatest since 1882. Owing to the heavy downfall of rain the rivors have swelled, and tho freah running out of the Waitaia River was too strong for tho Gairlook to steam against, so she came on to the breakwater. The low lands on the banks of the Waiwakiho are flooded, A Chinaman's garden has been washed away and his horse drowned. Several culverts have burst, and the water is up to within a few fo9t of tho floor of several bridges. Christcuurch, February 13, Blight showers fell this morning, and the weather now is very thick and threatening. , . .
