In the Divorce Court this morning, Honora Kathleen Godden applied for a dissolotion of marriage with Danvers Stephen Godden, who was formerly engaged in the Public Works Department here but is now in Melbourne, and the Chief Justice granted a decree ntai with costs against him. Supreme CourtTijiaru, February 10. Supreme Court Criminal Sessions were opened to day before Mr Justice Denniston. There is a longer calendar than usual, eight prisoners being called up to answer eleven charges, including sheep stealing, wool stealing, forgery and uttering, stabbing and larceny. His Honor told the Grand Jury that all the cases were of the very simplest description. E. L. Perceval, aged 18, for the forgery of his mother's name to a cumber of cheques, pleaded guilty. Sentence was defjjp?d. A Maori lad, who was prerausly convicted of horse stealing, was sentenced to one year's imprisonment for stealing a saddle. Later.
The Grand Jury found true bills in all the cases brought before them. Before being discharged they made a presentment protesting against the closing;of the Timaru prison, is unfair to the persoiid in custody for trial, and the importance of the town and district warranted a continuance of the institution. Jean Charl, an old Frenchman, and an old offender, got three years for breaking into and stealing from a shop in Oamaru. Halon Olsen, a saibr, pleaded guilty to stabbing a shipmate. Sentence was deferred. Harry Clark, a fireman on the s.s. Eangitiri, was acquitted on a charge of stealing from the person. Ixvercargill, February 10.
At the Supreme Court, before Mr Justice Williams, Frederick Blythe and John Williams, who pleaded guilty to escaping from the Milford prison, were sentenced to four months' imprisonment. William Richard Richmond was sentenced to two yeats' imprisonment for robbing a seaman. Joseph Wallis, a Waikara resident was found guilty of an offence agiinst the Marriage Act, having made a declaration that he and his intended; wife had been resident tliree-- days in the Gore district, whereas they had only been 24 hours in the township. Sentence was deferred.
