ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taratahi-Carterton Board was he'd on Saturday last. Present M ssrs H R Bunny (chairman), J Riyner, E Morgan, \V B Allen, H Braichwaite, E W Dorset, James Stevens and N Grace. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, The Treasurer reported a debit balanco of .£B2B 8s 3d. A statement of liabilities of each Ward was read by the Clerk, together with an ao* count of receipts Binco last Correspondence inwards— LM# H Potts and Go., . their mill,SouthCattwroPKOTTOl that £2O be expended . on. the : said road. .<?£..% '.£/ From Mr J. Burrow, asking to be allowed to fence aoross the road abutting on. Francis!. Wand Somerset roads. Resolved, that he be informed that the Board will offer no objection to the request. From Mr Hodder, ro road leading to his property, offering to give metal for the. purpose. The stated that the road was only of a few holes being filled in, and it was resolved that the oVerseer be in» structed to see to it. Resolved,,;that the arrangement with Mr Boyle as to shifting a fence be confirmed. From Mr Bremner, re laying off a line of road through Mr Grants at Ma^ahuna. Mr-Grace' stated that there had been some mistake in referring the engineer, (Mr BremnerXto, a;; wrong starting peg, and promised no; see to the mistake being rectified. ■ it was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of Mr Grace. From Grown Lands Board, approving of ithe expenditure -of thirds and fourths."
From Mr J. Bassett, re road to bis property. Lett to iHe ' 1 From M. J. Knight, roadman at Gladstone, asking the Board to proTide liinvwith a water tank. The application was not granted. From Mr E. MacLaren, stating that the>gravel pit joining; .hia property was dangerous. The matter . was left to the Warden. A similar oomplaint was made by; Franois, which was also left to the Warden.
Mr Morgan brought forward ; thei matter f in'. dispute b'ettfflM '••"the Carteitdn Borough Council and the Road Board in regard to the . repairs done on the DalefieldSoad, and to prevent any further misunderstanding moved that no work in future be undertaken where the two Boards are concerned, unless there' is«■ a 1 cltftr understanding between them as to the proprietory of the work. Mr S tevens seconded the resolution* The Clerk explained that 'the arrangement previously entered into was that all boundary roads elwuld be under the coatrol of the Borough Council and that the Road Board contribute their share towards the repairs of suoh roads.
The resolution was carried, and a : oopy ordered tp bo forwarded to the Carterton Borough Council. Outward correspondence, from tho letter book was read and'approved? Some accounts were posßod foe payment.
Tenders were ordered to be called for some works to be undertaken in No 5 Ward. Mr Morgan moved that 1 specifications be prepared for the most urgent part of the work to .be done, and also tbat £lO be allowed 4 to Mr Jesson for half an acre of land ,i for a gravel pit. Seconded by Mr Stevens.
Mr Allen asked leave to prepare specifications to' some works to be undertaken in No 7 Ward. '
The Chairman asked permission to > be allowed to prepare specifications for some metalling on tho ' Road, which vfas granted; Tho meeting then adjourned. r
