PAHIATUA.

The untiring perseverance of the residents of Kaitawi in endeavoring to persuade the Board of Education to establish a school there has at last been rewarded with success. The building will shortly bo commenced. Colonel Roberts had quite a field day (or rather days) here at the last sitting of the Magistrate's Court. I may mention that some inconvenience is felt at our representative of the force being obliged to act in the dual capacity of constable and Cleric of the Uourt. Some assistance should be given him. Where the grievance is most felt by him is, of course, in the instance of prosecuting in an indictable oase and having to take evidence at the same time.
Mr Breeds is just completing the erection of a handsome dwelling house and other farm buildings upon his run in the Makuri. The homestead will now present quite a pleasant and picturesque appearance. Mr Natusch of your town is the architect.
Mr Natuscb, I understand, intends opening a branch otfice here. As the country around is now presenting quite a civilized appearance, large demands upon his professional experience will no doubt be made. Occasionally a little humor is extracted from even the humdrum routine of business in a Magistrate's Court. Such an instance occurred here on Tuesday, when Mr Pownal raised a laugh at the expense of a suitor, who, in the long string of ills and inconveniences which be had Buffered at the hands of a recalcitrant defendant, sought to recover dam" ages for "mosquito bites' caused through the said defendant's negligence. His olaim did not meet with that sympathy at the hands of the Bench which it deserved ! The peregrinations of an excit6d child of the Flowery Land, who, looking out of the Court windows, displayed considerable excitement over a dog fight and other items of sport out • side, also caused a slight diversion,
