TENUI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent)

More welcome rain ! Starting on Saturday a light but continuous rain fell for two days and two ni<?hts, and the heart of the squatter is glad within him as he looketh upon his paddock of newly-sown turnips, and his hills clothed once more in a rich mantle of green. Feed of all kinds is now very abundant, and consequently the price of stock is rising. • A little damage is reported among the orchards, an excess of moisture causing a good many plums to burst and turn inside out, while a few complain of the corn spouting in the slook.

The Foresters had a meeting on Saturday evening last at the Road Board office. It was decided to celebrate the anniversary of the opening of the Lodge by holding athletic sports on St Patrick's Day, and a dance in the evening. A subscription list was started in the room, and a considerable amount subscribed. It was estimated that dver £4O would be furthcoming for prize money, and it was decided to advertise the programme and also to advertise for tenders for the booth.

A meeting of the Rifle Club Bull Committee was held at the Tenui hotel on Saturday evening last, when arrangements were completed for the coming ball. Among other things it was decided to erect a marquee alongside the town hall, to be used as a card and smoke room. The ball promises to be a great success; I hear fifty tickets have already been disposed of.

Mr J. Watfeon, telegraph lineman, met with rather a serious accident on Monday last. He was out on a line repairing expedition up the coast, when his horse missed his footing, and fell heavily, Watson, unfortunately, under him. Though in great pain he managed to reach Mataikuna, where he fell among good Samaritans, and the followingmorning Mr Murray, the popular manager, drove the sufferer back to Tinui. It will be some time before he can resume his duties.
