PAHIATUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
Preparations are being made to enlarge the Union Hotel. Mr Price, the genial host, is evidently determined to vie with the other houses in the town in providing his clients with comfortable accommodation.
I hear that a resident of your town intends shortly to open a store in the Makuri, It is a wonder that this promising "spec" has not been seized on before now bv some enterprising man. The moyeinents of the river, especially in the winter, time have always been a source of continual trouble to those doing business on both sides of it, but a man with a building on the Maku.n side will be able to pack his goods in all weathers without reference to the hitherto annoying Tiraumea river. We had a break in the weather yesterday, and it now promises well. We are in hopes that a little Summer will supervene. Mr Hogg's maiden speech in Parliament has caused considerable entertainment here to both his supporters and opponents, for obvious reasons.
