Body Found-
Christchurch, February 3.
To-day a settler named Dodley found the body of J. H. Hernall, who was drowned while attempting to cross the Hurunui River a few weeks back. It was discovered 16 miles below where Hernall was drowned. Overdose of ChloralChristchurch, February 8. This morning a draper named Henry Lemercier, residing in Clou-* cpster street East, died from the effects of an overdose of chloral. He had been a sufferer from sleeplessness for some considerable time, and had been in the habit of taking chlora 1 aa a remedy. Ho was 45 ycara old and married,
Ohiof Justloo Oo&ororaatz. Auckland, February 8. The natives at Samoa have fliven the Tuloloa in honour of the Chief Justice. His Honour's first work on his arrival was the preparation of the electoral roll for the municipal elections, to take place on the 80th January. In his address to the natives the Judge declared that Malietoa'was the king, \ and that no ,- other persou weuld be recognised in that position by the great Powers. The people would soon be asked to pay taxes, but they would not be greater than were necessary. j^ Rev Mr "Warroa. 2D. Auckland, February 8. At a meeting of the Auckland Presbytery to-night, the clerk, Rev Mr Sommerville, reported that some time ago a man named Warren had applied for a charge under the Presbytery, and had sent in a testimonial setting out that he had received the degree of D.D. in the Central College of the Presbyterian Church of the United States, and had been ordained to the ministry of that Church. Ho (Mr Sommerville) wrote to the people and places mentioned,- and replies stating that the credent not genuine. Warren had a return of his testimonials, that he was about to remove to the '■ South, He was informed that the matter had been laid before the Presbytery, but that the request for the return of his papers had taken the case out of their hands. The Rev Mr Munro said that Warren had been at Gisborne, and had conducted service there in a very acceptable manner. Tho last heard of him was at Napier. Those present thankodAl Mr Somerville for his action.
