PAHIATUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MrGecrge Innes, who was for some years in the Bank of N.Z. at Woodville as bcth teller and accountant, and was latterly transferred to Wellington, has been appointed agent of the Bank here. His many friends will be happy to hear of his welldeserved promotion. Our main road to Woodville is simply in a shocking state, loose boulders of a villanous size being scattered all over it. Que drive over it would obviate the necessity of taking any more exercise for a month by even the most rigid of athletes, Building is still going on apace in the township and its immediate vicinity, and "mysterious rumours of now happy bachelors being on the verge of "risking it" shortly are afloat. The untimely end of Mrs Carlile through drowning at Woodville on Friday night has caused a feeling of sincere sorrow throughout tho district. Sympathy with Mr Carlile in his sad bereavement is expressed everywhere. The deceased lady was much esteemed for her many genial and homely qualities.
