BOROUGH COUNCIL.
COMMITTEE MEETINGS.
A meeting of the Works Committee of the Masterton Borough Council was held in the chambers last evening, there being present Cra Grapper (ill the chair), Hessey, and Eton. It was decided that Mr A. J. Raw-, son be employed to do the grading, etc., in Renall-strocfc at a cost of £3 3s. The Chairman was authorised to take steps to procure a gravel pit for the use of the Borough as early as possible, WAS ASD LIURARY. The Gas and Library Committoe also met. Present—Crs Perry (in the chair), E. Chaoiborlaiu, Cullcu, and X. Dixon. The manager of the gas works reported that 141,269 feot of gaß had , been consumed for the past month, against 125.082 feet for the corresponding period last year. The middle bed of retorts were now ready for work, Some fire-clay would be necessary for repairs to the fire place and top retort, and he would suggest the ordering of two sots of fire bars. The water in the tank had gone down last week, but had since risen. The report was adopted and the works suggested authorised to be done. It was resolved to procure estimates of a new tank. It was resolved by the Library Committee that the following books amongst others bo procured : General Booth's "In Darkest England," Rider Haggard's latest, May Crommelin's, and Artenius Ward's.
