EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held yesterday. Present—J. R. Blair (Chairman), J. Young, F. H. Fraser, d. Beetham, A. W. Brown, W. C. Buchanan, M.H.R, Rev J. Paterson, and Dr Newman, M.H.R. The pay sheet amounted to £2922 17s 2d, which was ordered to be paid. Leave of absence for three months was granted to Mr H. Bunny. The proposed additions to the Hastwell School, at a cost of £159, was agreed to. The Board agreed to rent the Town Hall at Newman (should such an edifice be erected) for school purposes. It was decided to re-cover and repaper the school residence at Pahiatua The erection of a schoolhouse at Kaitawa was decided upon. The question of erecting a school at Ballance was deferred. The Chairman was authorised to visit the school at Khandallah, where there was some trouble. The Chairman announced that the building grant derived from the Education Department for the use of the Wellington Education Board amounted to 118000. The resignation of Miss Boylan of her position as teacher of the Waikawa School was accepted, and Miss Duncan was appointed in her stead. It was decided that no reduction should be made in the salary of Mr F Gover, of Fernridge. The requisite repairs were ordered to be made to the Mangaone School. The sum of £3 was granted for drainage purposes at the Eketahuna School. The application of the Mungaroa Committee for £lO for repairs and for a bell was ordered to be reported on. The question of a shelter shed for the Upper Hutt School was left in the hands of the Chairman. It was decided to effect repairs to the roof of the school residence at Featherston. The sum of £ls for fencing Shannon school was passed. The Board then adjourned.
