The number of letters despatched from New Zealand last 'Frisco mail, the first since the introduction of the 2£d letter'rate was 38,891. The numbers for the four previous months were:—December 22,710, November 27,106, October 24,048, September 23,228, The increase at the reduoed rate is considered very satisfactory, but the small number posted in December is attributed to the holidays, and that correspondence was delayed in order to take advantage, of the cheap rate.
