Banquet to Mr Smith.
Danevirke, Wednesday. Mr W. C. Smith, M.H.R. for Waipawa, was banquetted in the Town Hall last night, 120 persona beiug present, including Mr \V. L. Rees, of Auckland. Mr Ballanco was absent through illness. Mr Smith met with a splendid reception, and during the eveuing was presented with a purse of 100 sovs. Messrs Rees and Smith leave for Wellington to-day.
Sooriag Aooldont PuKETAru, Wednesday. Fredericks had his finger amputated at the Hospital lust night. An examination showed ho had been hit by a bullet and not by a splinter. The officers are at ut loss to account for the accident, unless it wns that Fredericks, in turning tho target, had reached his hand above tho s<des o £ the trench. This is tho first accident which has happened in connects* with the Association. A list was started in the camp for Wo injured man. At a meeting &£,- compitetors this morning it was unanimously decided to continue the now system of counting sighting shots' throughout the meeting.
