MESTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Couno.il was held last evening, there being present His Worship the Mayor, Councillors E E Chamberlain Cullcn, Gapp'er, T E Chamberlain, Renall, Itpu, Hepsey, and Perry, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The applications of E Hockley and T Macguire for licenses to drive, under the Haokney Carriage by-law, were granted. Mr Fred Wright applied for an approach to his stable in Hall Street: Referred to the Works Committee.
Correspondence was read from the Grey Valley Coal Company, stating that another truck of coal had jjeeu forwarded &\ ds,s per ton, the Town Clerk informing the Oounpil that tins pripe was more than double what the Council formerly paid, the old price being 22s per ton. Gaptain Pickering appeared to inform the Council of tho state of the Queen Street firebell, the tongue having been pullel out, The matter was referred to the Works Committee with a request that it at once'be dealt with, The reports of the Works and the Finance Committees were adopted as read. Or Heasey moyerl that the Works Committee inspect the Upper Plain road, and report to the Council what work would be required in. widening the road, Permission«as given to Cr Gappev to burn rubbish on lii 3 'property in the Borough, Or Eton moved that the petition presented about twelve months ago by the tradesmen of_Queen Street m reference to a water 'supply be laid upon the table at the next Council meeting,—Carried. Cr. Renall moved that it is the opinion of the Council that it is desirable to furnish a water supply for the borough, A deal of discussion again took place upon the worn out subject, Cr Renall again offering to furnish the water gratis, if the Council regulate the channels and keep them in order. Cr Perry ventured to suggest th at a supply 1 fromMossrs Williams and property would be better ' for the town than Mr Renall's scheme but the Mayor cut shortan animated discussion by putting tho motion, which was carried,
Or Renall then moved " That the Works Committee be instructed to let the water down immediately," but it was lost on the voices by six to three.
