They intimated, however, that they were willing to take on officers as the opportunity offered, provided they seceded from the Trades Hall. Sydney, October 21, The secretary of the Shearers' Union, m the course of a speech, said that Unionism was not now a question of wages or hours, but aspired to the higher idea of co-opera-tion. Though in tlie present struggle the men might possibly be staived into going to work again the principle of Unionism would not be killed. Tho disagreement amon'g tho Marine officer has been healed, and all.have returned.except the proposer and seconder of the motion in favor of a withdrawal from affiliation with the Trades and Labour Council.
The Association is annoyed at tlie action of tho Melbourne officers in seeking a conference with the owners. The marine engineers have decided not to support the action of the Adelaide men, which they regard as unwarranted, London, October 20. Mr Brennan, President of the Trades Council, lias withdrawn from the West Sydney eleotion owing to the maritime bodies not loyally supporting him. The Trades Council has decided to remain neutraUin tho present contest, but will make preparations for the general election. Brisbane, October 21. Tho shearers' delegate at Roma has been fined £l5O and costs or in default 20 months' imprisonment for inciting shearers to leave work, Adelaide, Ootober 21. _ The Labor Council has issued a circular staling the terms on which men may be employed. They have decided to boycott all vessels owned by the Australian Steam Owners' Association.
