Presbyterian CHURCH.

Induction of tho Rev. R. Wooft. The induction of tho Eev R.Wood to the charge of llie pastorate of the local Presbyterian Churoli took place at 2 p.m. yesterday, There was a fairly good congregation, and the proceedings throughout were characterised by the utmost impressiveness, Tho .Bey Mr Lyndbourne, of Waihenga, presided and preached, and formally installed and received the Eev Mr Wood. The Eev Mr Hope, (of the Lower Hutt) addressed the minister iu an intensely earnest and pathetic manner, and was followed by tho Eev Mr Shirer (of Newtown) who delivered an interesting and instructive address to the congregation. The proceedings were diversified by' the rendering of appropriate hymns by the choir. A welcome tea-meeting was held at 5.80 p.m., which, thanks to the ladies of the congregation, was one of the most successful ever held in .the district, The tables were laden with, refreshments, which for quality an'd abundance could not be surpassed, and if (lie most fastidious of appetites were not satisfied it wa& no fault of the lady providers. The following ladies, assisted by young ladies of the congregation) presided! -Mesdames Johnston (2), Feist, J. M'Gregor, Chamberlain, Winohestor, Alexander and D.M'Gregor. A publio mooting was subsequently held, the Church being crowded to the doors, The Boy. Mr Murray, of Carterton, presided, After t|ie singing of a hymn and prayer, the Moderator expressed his regret at having to sever his connection wit!} tho Masterton Church. In ' conolußjQO !}'e expressed hig heartfelt 1 gratitude at the warm reoeptiqri ho ; had received from the Presbytery and ' the congregation. The collection was here taken up. Tlje Bey Mr Sfojrer then gave an interesting, ijnd humorous address, , and urged upon the congregation to 1 take good cave of the" Minister and j his wife.
