[By Rustic I i The long feud between the two i sections of the Mauricovillo East • School Committee has received its ' quietus in tho mngio word, resign- ' ation, Two meetings of the I householders within the past fortt night has had the desired

effect, The first of those meetings r was convened by the majority on the I 30th of August, that being the regular c monthly meeting of tho Committee, ' There was a fair attendanco of householders - and the Committee ] turned up in full force, The ball was ( set rolling by the Chairman, who ' objected to the interferenoo of tho hoiiseholdors, and after a somowliat ( sharp alteroa'tionwith some of the members of the Committee ho pursued his former tactics ! by retiring, The rest of the ! Committee, howevor, stayed, and after Borne discussion Mr J, Cottiss was yoted to tho chair and the whole grieyanco was threshed out in the most approved fashion, the Chairman of the Committee coming , in for ah extra share of the tit bits, To attempt to give even a condensed account of the firy speeches would l , take up too rnuch space, and to do justice to the highly finished declamations of the various speakers would , take an abler pen than mine. The ; meeting on the whole was • very , orderly, Mr Cottiss, being a raa,ri q{ good sense and great muscular' development, proved to bo the right ; man in the right place, setting bounds ' to tho exuberance of oaoh speaker 1 with O'Bovke-like firmness and { decision, The subsequent meeting called by the Chairman's friends had I a very meagre attendance Somo I difficulty was experienced in getting a ' chairman, & length Mr Cottiss again ' consented to occupy tho position, The ', Chairman of the Committee gave a • somewhat lengthy explanation of his conduct, not without being, taken to task rather seyorely by certain mem- : bers of tho Committee who were , present. Ho strongly objected to tho i resignation of the Committeo.expresssd i his willingness to work with the \ majority, and bury the hatchet. The 1 meeting decided otherwiso, however, ' and bo. the Committee fell, and great ww the fall thereof, affording as it , does a lamentable instance of the i instability of human greatness, The i Board has I believe been requested to 1 fix aday for the eleotion of a new Cora- < raittee to take the place of the defunct ; one, and I understand the new master, I Mr Worboys, from Hawkes Bay, will , be installed in a few days, and so ends ; the storm in a teapot. • A fashionable wedding eventuated > at West Mauricovillo on Wednesday J last, when Mr M Eiogard, a well- | known resident here, plighted his laith , to the beautiful Miss AnnieMortensen, > also a resident, and erstwile the belle of maßy of our social hops, The ceremony was performed by the reverend Mr Ohris.tenscn, Lutheran minister, , in the pioturesquo little church that I tops the neighbouring hill, "Rustic" was not invited, but got all the particf ulars from a lady fiiead. Tho bride 1 wore a dross of pale pink and looked ' t tho very pink of loveliness, The ; bridesmaids, Miss Thomßen, Miss I Nilson and Miss Jensen looked charmi ing in nhite. The bridegroom's brother ; officiated as best man, and gave his i brotheraway with a stoicism worthy ' of a descendant of the hardy Norse- ; man, Quite a largo number of people [ witnessed the ceremony, comprising , the.youth and beauty of Mauriceville, f Many were the admiring glances ' bestowed on tho beautiful bride, while [ the lucky man was regarded with ' looks of envy by eligible bachelors, jj many of whose faces betmyedimmortal [longings, \ think the chemists of 5 Masterton, should be cautioned against 3 supplying prussio acid to any young i- man hailing from Mauricovillo for a ' period of at least three weeks. Even ° I feel that there is very little loft to a live, for now; ■ I once thought—but j onough, wo cannot vecalltho past, f h prosont udiu I ' . ' Sept, lOlii, 1890, . "■'
