THE DRAG HUNT.
[By Our Special The drag hunt at Kaiwaiwai was very largely attended indeed yesterday. The rotds were thronged with people, most of whom were eithei mounted on horsebackor in vehicles. The total number present must have been between lour and five hundred persons. Masterton was not very strongly represented, the distance being too great, but all other parts of the Wairarapa largely contributed to the gathering. A number of Maoris tfere there, and seemed to display great interest in the operations. From Wellington we notioed Capt Baldwin, Mr lID Crawford, and the Misses Webb. Theso two ladies were the only ones who joined the field, and took part in the hunt. From forty to fifty horsemen followed the hounds. The first run was.about two miles. After that there was a spell, and then another run of a second two miles concluded the sport, None of the fences were high, at least those whioh wero could be brushed through, About three or four feet was the usual. The jumping was good and there were few falls. Miss Webb was one of those to.come to grief, but she was not hurt. Either this lady or her sister, it will be remembered, was dismounted at the Tawa Flat hunt. The oaupe was much the same on each oocassion, Yesterday at the spots whete wire fonoing had been unmasked by the addition of battens the jumps were very narrow, and. the whole field converged at these points. The result was that riders caunoned up against each other, and some one's horse swerving, Miss Webb was thrown to the ground,
The field kept pretty close to the hounds throughout, and a number of persona seemed to-be in at the finish, The hounds were in charge of the Huntsman, Mr O'Borke, and Mr Coleman officiated as whip. MrW. Lingar, the Master, was also on the soene,
In the evening'■■ a well-attended meeting was held at Smith's hotel, Featberston, when Mr H. D, Craw-
ford proposed that an amalgamation of the Wellington, Feilding, and Wairarapa hunting men should take stops to form a united Hunt Club for the whole distriot.
