A match beta een teams representing North and South Wairarapa was played at Carterton on Saturday last, -a resulting in a win for tho North by 12 points to nine. Tho game was keenly contested throughout, and a good exposition of football was shown : by both teams,. During the first . Bpell the Northerners scored six points , to . their opponents Jour.- ■ -In tho «-•' < second spell the Southerners worked very liard, and succeeded in. placing fire morepoibts to their score. The' Northerners, however, were quite equal to the occasion, and showed, oIL -,. what stuff they were uisde their score up to twelve points, Tries were obtained for the winners by Day, Gray, ahd Thompson, two of which were converted by C. Perry and the ' other by Thompson, Perry also succeeded in potting a goal, Tho tries fo 1 * South were 'obtained by Thomas, Tyler,, and Ingley, tho two ' latter only being converted. From a free , kiok Baumber placed a goal vfhich brought tho score, up to nine points, The game «?as played in a most friendly spirit, and showed a contrast to the recent cup matches in this respect. Messrs Mo'Kenna and >5 Beechy acted as. umpires, and Mr W. . M McKenzie made a capital referee,'.
A meeting of the match committee of the Rugby Union was held at the Marquis of Normanby Hotel, Carter- •' ton, after the match on Saturday last, but unfortunately there was not.a unanimity of feeling, and therepresentatativo team iwas; not','therefore'; 4 picked.
We understand that in consequence of tho disagreement between the members of the match committee all northern players have'absolutelyrefused to take part in the representative practices.
A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held at the White Hart Hotel, last Friday evening, Mr A. D'Arcy in the chair, A letter was read from Wellington, stating they" would Btiid. a team to Wairarapa about 14tb September. Correspond* endce was read from Canterbury, Otago, and South Canterbury Unions re matches, Considerable discussion ensued on the subject of sending a team south, and: it was resolved to postpone for a time making * decision on this question. It was deoided that the Seoretary sliquld • open connections with Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Wanganui, and Taranaki with a view to arranging matches with thoso unions, At the unanimous wish of the meeting Mr A. D'Arcy withdrew his resignation as one of the Match Committee,
A meeting of the Red Star Football Club was held in the Empire Hotel on Saturday evening, and was _v . attended by about forty members. A deputation was formed to wait upon Mr D'Arcy, with a view to request f hini to re-consider his deoision of resigning the captaincy of the club,' and we understand a favorable reply • has siuce been obtained"from that gentleman on tho subject.
