Arbitration Issues.
CiißisTcuußCU, August 9. The following are tbo issues, submitted by the Maritime Council to bo arbitrated upon in the dispute with Messrs Whitconibe and Tombs : 1. Were meu dismissed because of their connection with the Union ?
2, Have the firm kept their word to recognise the Uuion 1 3, Has their refusal hi the past to do so caused the present dispute ? 4, Isnottheemploymentofgirlsat 10s a week in the composing rpom a process of sweating?
6". Are the demands of the Typographical Union unreasonable ?' 6. Should not the firm give practical proof of their future recognition of the Union by employing Union men at ouqe and working under the Typographical Union's rules ? 7. If it can be shown that the employment of females is detrimental to the whole printing trada, should it not immediately he stopped? Whitconibe aud Tombs' Directors meet on Tuesday to consider the tissues,
Ono of the arbitration issues submitted being " Are tho demands of the Typographical Association reasonable," Messrs Whitconibe and Tombs have written to the Association inquiring what these demands are.
Oajiaku, August 9. It is understood that at a meeting pfjihpFarniers'Oluhi in committee, it was resolved tfiat a telegram of sympathy should be sent to Messrs Whitcqnibe and Tombs, with au offer pf financial assistance if necessary. It was also resolved to send telegrams to the Railway Commissioners and the Union Steamship Company asking them to uphold the law in regard to the carriage of Whitcombe and Tombs' goods.
Auckland, August 9. A meeting of the Auckland Trades and' Labour Council was held'last evening, when various matters affeot; ingthe trades' interests were considered. The principal discussion was on the Whitcombe and Tombs dispute. It wasunanimouslydecidedtosupportthe Maritime Council in every legitimate way, thoiigh it hoped that Whitcoinbq and Tpiribs \vpujd refer the matter to arbitrator]. Matters of lopal ill connection with the Bakers and apd, thp Engineeers' Association were also considered, The bakers' dispute is over the apprentice question. The letter is in reference to the disoharge of their members from the Devonport Ferry Company's service through, it is alleged, their forming a union.
