WAIRARAPA POULTRY ASSOCIATION.
.' The s xtli annual exhibition of the above Association waa opeued in tlio Drill Hall yesterday, and, as far as the quantity and quality of the exhibits were-concerned, was au success,. The Uorablow) bad' beeti 'most : .''energetic in bis efforts, and a3 a result . entries! too 7 received from. all parts of the | Colohy,.the'competition in each class beiiig exceptionally keen. Tne exhibits were well arranged)
and were shown to advantage in tlio new pensjwbich>were Idridly lent by the,-Wellington Association for the occasion. The staging cotiniiittee, lybo worked hard oil tEe evening prior to thosliow,'deserve credit for the display made, . 1
The attendance yesterday afternoon was not large owing to the judging not being finished till a late hour. In the overling, "however, the hall was wellfilled.and everybody was delighted with what they saw,: besides being charmed by the musical selections of Pearson's Brass Band, which played outside the building.
- The judging of. the poultry: was< undertaken by Mr E Elliott, of Dunedirij who gave universal satisfaction, whilst in pigeons and canarijs Mr IJ Boys acted in like capacity. The. principal prize - takers were
Messrs Walker k Elkins, and Wilton,' Bannister.and Co. V In-game, Mr A A.White was the principal exhibitor, his black red cock and hen aiid brown red cook being deserving of special mention. A fine pile cockerel was also exhibited by Messrs Wilton and Bannister. •
The Spanish fowls of Messrs Wilton and Bannister we;e very good, there being a good show in the class as a whole. Andalusians were fairly well represented, Messrs J," and .D. Caselberg carrying off the principal prizes.
Mr Casey took first, second, and third prize for black Minorca cock, with three grand birds, which were also prize-winners in Wellington. Mr Casey also took the prize for Minorca' hen. Messrs Wilton and . Bannister exhibited a pair of fine Partridge Cochin China cocks, for whioh they were awarded first and second prize, securing first also for a hen, (a Wellington prize taker) in the same class. Messrs Bogan and Co. took first arid second for Partridge Cochin China pullets, with two welt-pencilled pullets.
In dark Braliamas there were about a dozen entries, Walker and Elkins carrying all before them. There was a good. show of light Brahmas,; Messrs Wilton and Bannister, and Rogen and. Co. dividiug' the honors, The Langahan? contained big olassts, in which wore to be found several first-olass birds, No less than seventeen entries were made in the various classes of Plymouth Books, the most attractive exhibit being a jock of Mr H, Remmington, which was fit to hold its own in any company. The keenest competition in the whole show was undoubtedly in the Hamburg olass, In silver-pencilled Hamburgs, the cocke'rei of |Mossrs Walker and Elkins was a capital specimen, being the winner of a 1 Wellington trophy. The silverspaugied hen of Mr jV, 6. King was almost perfection, whilst the Black Hamburg cook of Messrs Walker and Elkins was a model bird. Mr . Casey was also successful in taking all the -prizes for black cockerelks and pullets. The Polish class was a complete walk-over for Messrs Walker and Elkins, who also divided with Messrs Wilton, and Bannister in Wyandottes,
; Deserving of special montion was the white Legorn pullet of Mr W, G. King, the brown cockerel of Mr F. Gover, and the brown pullet of Mr 0. Anketell.
Tlio, bantam exhibits were very numerous and good, the pile game cook of Messrs Walker and JSlkins and the Duclnving lien of Messrs Wilton and Bannister being real beauties! The show of ducks was not up to the usual standard, the only really good exhibits heing those of Mr J. Casey in Pekins, There were several good exhibits in turkeys and geese, Messrs Walker and
Elkins taking all the prizes m the former class. Tlie pigeo'u show was numerically poor, there being a great lack in competition. The birds exhibited by Mr W. Houuslow, however, were much
admired, and well deserved the high honors they were awarded,. - The canary prizes were keenly contested, the wholo of the exhibits being really good, The Nornich and varie-
gated bird of Mr James ' liussoU is especially deserving of morition.' , The only other clesses in which there were exhibits were doves, guinea
pigs, rats, oats, and dressed poultry. : The gold medal for the greatest number of points in any one class wai awardedto Mr A A White for his gam< exhibits.
Mr J. Young's prize of a silver dessert dish and spoon for the greatest number of points in Andalusians was oavried off by Messrs J. and D. Caselborg, and Messrs Kohu and Co., silver medal for the best Game Cock
