INSPECTION OF STOCK.
Welllngton-¥est Coast District The following is the annual report of the Inspector, Mr J, Drmnmond, for the year ended 81st Marob, 1890, on the stock of the above district ; Scab.—l am glad to statethatthis district is now free from this disease. TJungwoi'in.—There is still.a, con-., siderablo mortality ftom^his'cause amongst some flocks, owing in a large measure to want of proper manage* ment, good feed, and frequent change of young stock. Lice,—The practice of dipping at least once a year, now very generally adopted on the larger holdings, is keeping lice within reasonable limits; but on smaller holdings, wheie this precaution is neglected, lice still continue to be more or less prevalent. General health of stock,—This has been fairly good during the year, but owing to scarcity of feed during the i summer of 1889, in some parts of the i district there was a considerable i increase in the death-rate. I am.pl, i opinion also that this fact is, likely. I to interfere with the growing clip • and next lambing. There have been 55,489 sheep t introduced into this district by land i from Hawke's Bay, Of .•>, these,: t 21,839 went into the Wairarapa, and e 88,050 to the West Coast. Borne of
these have been used for stocking new country, and the remainder for slaughter. lam, however, unable to give the proportions.. There wero imported during the year: From England, six rams and one dog; from Australia, • one ram and twenty-five dogs. There were exported during the same period: To Australia, thirteen horses, twentyfive dogs, three cattle., There have been 288,888 sheep frozen, 87,723 preserved, and 48,200 boiled down; a total of 819,506.
