EKETAHUNA.

The officers- of the Eketahuna "Volunteer Fire Brigade met the ratepayers in the schoolroom on Thursday, 17th July, to report progress and discuss the question of ways and means. Mr T. Bayliss occupied the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, The Secretary, Mr Bennett, read correspondence from Mr Farrell, of Woodville, re ougine for sale in the latter town for the sum of £GS, including hose and couplings for same; from Mr Gilbert, of Napier, stating that the plant belonged to him, and that he was willing to take the above sum for the same, It was resolved that Mr .Martin be elected Secretary for one year, vice Mr Bennett, resigned. The captain, Mr Wallace,stated that several gentlemen had given in their names as members. Proposed by Mr Hodgea, that subscription lists be placed in the hands of the business peoplo of the town for one month. Carried. The meeting then adjourned^ A slight earthquake shock was felt here on Wednesday at 8,15 p.m. A slight shock was also felt &t 10 a.m. on Thursday, A vsry heavy frost was experienced last night. At the meeting on Thursday night it was decided that on the occasion of fire the school bell should be rung as follows:—Continuous peal, Eketahuna ; one stroke and peal, Parkville; two strokes and peal, Newman j three strokes and peal, Alfredton road.
