Drawing and Designing classes at Carterton.

Tlio question of opening a branch of the Wellington School of Design was gono into on Saturday, when Mr Riley, Art Director for the Education Board, called at tlmt township aud had nil interview with Messrs Wtii. Booth and H. Braithwaite, two gentlemen who have taken some interest in tho matter,

Mr Eiley explained that easts, models, and full apparatus would be provided by the Art Department, and that what would be required of Carterton would be that 1 it should find'a I suitable room and also supplement the salary of the teacher, (who was subsidised by tho Education Board) in proportion to the services rendered, The pupils, he mentioned, would, cf course, have to provide their own paper, pencils, and personal neceaseries, ■ Tho authorised fees were £1 per quarter for day pupils, and 10s per quarter for those who attended night classes, After some further conversation, it was decided that the movement should be left 111 abeyance until it was first seen what support the public would be likely to extend in the wav of joining the classes as pupils, and if so subscribing to the expenses of the undertaking. It is not yet known whether, if the classes aro started in Carterton, Miss Holmes of Masterton will bo able to conduct them or not. Thus, arranging for a teacher, and choosing a day and hours will stand over, as they would in any case, until the prospects are more definite, - '
