AUSTRALIAN, Melbouene, July 7. • Some months ago the Premier of Victoria wrote to the' Governors of the other colonies regarding a suggestion that had been made that they should combine to form common reading, library, corresponding and meeting rooms at the Imperial Institute, which is being erected in London, instead of each Colony maintaining these rooms separately. Replies havo now been received which show that the Governments of Queensland, New Zealand, South Australia, Tasmania, and Fiji cordially approve the suggestion. At the annual meeting of the Colonial 'Mutual Life Assurance Society it was shown that the cash surplus was equivalent to over £BOO,OOO. The invested funds exceeded £1,000,000, and the new business £8,835,675. Sydney, July 7. In the Supremo Court to-day, the; case Connel v.
