BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Works, Finance, and By-laws Committee ot the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. Present—Ora Gapper (in the ohair), Mcßwen and T. Chamberlain.

The report of the Overseer was read as follows: Works done since last Works Committee meeting—l, I have completed the metalling on High street, and footpath m Queen Btreet at Kuripuni. 2. I have repaired Queen street from Wilton's old store to the Catholic Ohuroh. 8,1 have repaired Chapel street from the fishery to Hall street. 4.1 have repaired the footpath in Lincoln road and Hall-street. 5. The ruts have been raked in on Donald; Donald's road, West Bush and the Bailj way road. G. The scraping of Queen-street, Johnston-sheet,, and Bannister-street has been..'attended to. 7. Haveoleanod the footpath in Albert-street, and made a road to the pound. 8, Am working the carts at present in Perry-street, and it will take a oouple of days more to complete it. 9. The gate at McKenzie's pit has been shifted, As the fence has been shifted back I have to make a road to. the, pit, 10,.The contractors wore progressing favorably in Ohuroh-street until the wet weather set in, I. would also reoommend that Lincoln road bo soraped and Hall-street repaired; that Johnston-street be repaired; that tho Upper Plain roadbe repaired from the end of the ohain road to the railway road, and that two nine foot culverts be put in at the junction oi Miriam-street and Worksop roadt The Committee recommended tba e Lincoln road be soraped, but thatth matter of .Hall Btreet be referred t° the Counoil to consider the question of dealing with the water tables, It 1 was also recommended that the Upper Plain road be patohed; that the culverts ■ he put in at the corner of Miriam-st and Worksop road; that a box onlvert he put in at Mrs Corbetfs corner to.carrythe stagnant water into Queen Street witer table; that the grossing be made good by material from the yards, and that tenders be called for making' oarriage.way, and one foot way in Aroher Street, Tho Overseer was instructed to endeavour to get a few loads of sand to repair the footpath on the Upper Plain,
