• The Carterton Borough Council met yesterday. Prese'nt-Tko Mayor (U. Fairbrother), and Councillor A. Booth,, Vickerataff, Moore, Deller, MoKenzie, and Baylies, The Treasurer reported the receipts since last meeting, and stated the bank balance to be L65.17a 5d to credit. . :
Correspondence was read from Registrar-General, Bending statistics and asking for annual' returns for 81st March,'lß9o. From Wairarapa North County Council, sending copy' of minutes of Charitable Aid Conference, held on 20th May, 1890. From Auditor-Genjral, certifying accounts to 81st March, 1890. From G. A. Fairbrother, offering to sell Mr Gayfer's allotment, scotion 208, for LlB5, as a gravel pit. ; • ... The roadman's'report was read and confirmed. »' "■' . "'' Permission was given to Mr R, E. Armstrong to erect a ; verandah; in front of his business premises, which were being moved forward, so as to be flush .with the street. The roadman was instructed to give notice to Messrs ft R Armstrong, Bank of New Zealand, T Kemp, Dr Johnston,,W. MoKenzie, J A Dudson; W " H ; Eranks, Monarty, Caselberg, Loasby, Mrs Clay, and I H. Wood, to ereot crossing bridges at the kerbing of the footpath fronting their premises, and on their failing to regard the notice to oarry out the work, and recover the cost from the respective parties by an action at law if necessary.
It was resolved that the- Counoil should view the gravel pit offered by Mr G. A, Fairbrotber; also that on Mr Viokerstafifs grounds, and report at next meeting. , ;
It was' decided that a fresh trial for an artesian well should be made at an expense not exceeding-ISO, of which the Council was to contribute LIS, on the condition that private subscribers guaranteed the remaining LIS.
