Charge of Heresy.
-'.'■. Dunedin, Juno 18. '•.. Tho heresy charge against the Kev. J. Gibb came beforo the Presbytery to-day. Mr A, 0, Begg, who nude tlio charge, and the Eev. J. Gibb .were heard at length, and after along discussion the. following, resolution ; wa's carried:- 1 ' That the Presbytery having had its attention drawn to certain statements ulleged to be made by Mr Gibb reflecting on the subordinate Btaudnrds, whifi Rlr Gibb confessed to have substantially made, and having heard Mr Gibb in explanation-dismiss .the case, with an expression of. regret that Mr Gibb should have allowed himself inadvertently, to have put a construction on the language of the shorter: catechism which it does, not warrant." The motion was carried by 17 votes to 6. Motions referring the matter to a committee had previously been lost.
An Old Offender. i Hokitika, June 18. At the. Eesidenf Magistrate's Court, 6.' H. Chamberlain was committed to.tho-Supreme Court, for entering a shop and stealing goods. Ho was caught in the shop at. 4 o'clock this morning, The accused is an old offender.,.. He once made a sensational escape with a man named Levy, but for the past nine years has been carrying on business, and was supposed to havo given up his old habits. He 13 over .60 years of age. _ Ho was supposed to havo been associated in the early days with the Burgess gang.. ; '
