As a "reward for their services at the late fire in the Avenue, the local Volunteer Fire Brigade received close on £2O donations from'the owners of properly round about. The result of the canvassiug for the testimonial to Captain Cummins, of the Eire Brigade, who is retiring after 25 years' service, promises to be a great success, Tha testimonial takes the form of a purse of sovereigns and an illuminated address.
The examination of the Wanganui scholarships takes place next Tuesday. Thirty-six' candidates will compete-Wanganui 8, Palmerston North 8, and Hawera 8.
