FOOTBALL.
The only match played in Masterton on Saturday was- the return between the Greytown Fire Brigade first and the Red Star second, which <vas keenly contested tin the Park Oval, Owing to the late arrival, of the, visitors, the game did not start before four o'clock, and consequently was finished in the dark. The Eire Brigade being a man short, Pani, the Ta Ore Ore crack, was taken on, and greatly strengthened the baok division. The play throughout was fairly even, and at times fust. The only score was gained in the first spell by the smart following up of the Brigade forwards, and fumbling on the part of the Star, full baok. Hoar increased the score by succeeding in the placo-kiok. The latter part of the second spell was greatly in favor of the local team, the Brigade goal line being constantly in danger. Althoughdesperate efforts were made, no further score was gained, and the gameeudedina win for Greytown by three points to nil. The principal Stars that" shone" were-Bogie, Green and Wallace iii the backs, and Owen, Hoar and Broom'in the forwards.; For the winners, Pani, Hoar' and Brunton (backs), and Maguire, Humphries and Quia (forwards) were the most conspicuous. Messrs Grigg and Eanganui wero umpires, and Mr D'Aroy made a fair referee. We qake the following report of the
