• Masterton ■ Agti'cuitural;. and : PasioralAssociatM. The annualgeneral meeting of the above named Sooiety wad held in Mr Elkins' Club Hotel yesterday afternoon. A fair, uumber "of. members of the Association attended, the chair being occupied by Mr W. Lowes, President of the Sooiety, The Secretary. (Mr A, Walker) read the advertisement calling the meeting, and Mr Lowes then addressed the members. It gave him* he said, much pleasure to be present on this occasion, because during the past year the operations of the Society had beeu highly satisfactory to all concerned. Ho would refrain from saying too much in praise of the Committee, becaHse most of the gentlemen of that body wei'o present, but he must say that all the officers i deserved the highest praise. Their Secretary had, unfortumtely,' been laid up, and they had all sympathised with that gentleman, he felt sure, and they were all glad to see Mr Walker once rnoro among them. A week or two ago the Committee had met to receive the balance sheet, and as he did not wish to detain them, with these few remarks he would bog leave to read the roport. Mr Lowes then read the report and balance sheet as follows: - Gentlemen,—l have much pleasure in presenting to you the report and balance-sbeet of another year's successful operations of your Society. There canbe.no doubt 'that the

Association has passed its infancy and_ is now a firmly established institution, . The- increasing importance of the annual exhibition of stook of all olasses, and the generous support of the publio, proves that your labors are not only successful, but highly appreciated, and tbo rapid development of the Pastoral interests of your district must, with your continued careful management, make .your Sooiety second in importance to none in the North' Island. : _ .Your balance-sheet bliows a net increase upon last year's balance of £7912s Bd, wliioh makes the credit balance at your disposal after writing off £25 from the assets, the respectable sum of £272 8s 4d; The Horse Parade and Show were both successful, while the Bam Fair, "a most important fixture," was undoubtedly the best ever held in the Wairarapa, both in the quality of the stook and the high prices they commanded. The thanks of the Association are

due to the many donors of subscvij tions and special prizes; the Sooiet is also greatly indebted to the Judge for their valuable services.

In concluding my report, I would congratulate the Society upon the services of Mr A. Walker, as Secretary, to whose energy and economical management is due a considerable saving in the working expenses for the past year. You will be called upon, in accordance with the rales, to elect a now President, Vice-President, and oue third of the General Committee for the ensuing year.—l am, &o, W. Lowes, President. The balance-sheet has already appeared in our columns. The

President said he wished to explain that the L 25 written off from the assets represented the value of the hurdles' and other similar property, and although the Society still retained possession,, it was thought better to strike this item out, Mr Lqwc-s then moved, and Mr F, Gray, seconded, " that the report as read be adopted," the motion being carried unanimously. The chairman pointed oat that the next business was the election of President, whereupon Mr Buick proposed; Mr Lowes again for'the office. Mr Lowes had done so well in the position, that he thought they had better leave well alone, and put Mr Lowes in.for another term, if that gentleman would consent,

Mr Lowes said lie bad done all lie could to assist the Association, but he thought they 'ought to make a change,, arid get some one more free to act in the interests of the Sooiety than he was. Another thing he had been given to understand that as President of the Maßterton. Society he was a source of offenoe to some people connected with the Wairarapa Society, (why he oertafaly did not know), and ho thought in the interests of the Sooiety it would be better to elect another man m bis place, '

Mr Lowes' objections were, however, overruled, and he was again elected President of the Society, In returning thanks he remarked that ho had hoped to be relieved, but as eleoted lie would continue to do his best, and hoped that the coming year would be aB successful as the past one,

Mr W Perry then proposed Mr TChamberlain as one of the ViooPresidents. Mr Buiok was also proposed but he declined to stand, Mr Gray also proposed Mr G Beetham, stating that that gentleman had signified his willingnsss to stand. Both gentlemen wore unanimously elected, Mr Chamberlain thanked the members for the honor done him, and Mr T Walker on behalf of Mr Beetham also thanked the Society, and stated that although Mr Beetham was not able to be present he had the interests of the Sooiety at heart and would do whatheoould to assist them, The Chairman said it would not be necessary for the Secretary to be reelected, He understood Mr Walker had consented to retain office.

Mr Walker observed that lie had thought of resigning because ha really could not attend to the whole of the work, but he had now rnado an arrangement with an aoeountant in Masterton to do the writing, and he would look after the yards and other outside work, ;

The election of the Committee was then proceeded with, it being a rale of the Society that one-third of the members be balloted out annually, The retiring members were—Mots D. Donald, E. E. Meredith, B. P. Perry, Jas. Ross, F, Shaw, T, L. Thompson, and H.E, Elder. The members eleoted (o fill the vacanoies were—Messrs A. Stewart, John Hessey.'W. Wardell, Robert Mackay, James Maorae, Jae. Boss, J. Herbert; Messrs A. W, Cave, W. B. Buiclt, E. E, Chamberlain, F. Gray, D. Guild, J. Macara, W. Mace, W. Perry, H. G. Williams, (J. K,';o. Hood, E. Meredith, William Pewy, and Donald McKenzie still ranging members of the Committee. It. was deqided to hold a Committ.ee meeting on the 18th iust. ; A few accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the Treasurer (Mr H.H. Smith,)
