(United Press Association.) The Dairy Industry. Dunedin April 23, A largely attended meeting of delegates from the dairy factories in the South Island was held to-day in the Exhibition. The meeting had been convened by Mr Savers, 'the Government export, with a view of forming an association in tho interests of the industry, and seventeen factories were represented. After Mr Sawera had pointed put the advantage of'oo-operation, he gave an instance of-the disadvantages existing at present, stating that lip had been approached by an American firm and asked to buy good cheese the evident intention being to rebrand it and send it to London. Then it was well-known that when good cheese reached London it was ro-branded, whereas inferior was sold as Hew Zealand, The Association would bo able to make better terms with the shipping companies. It was deoided to form an association, and a committee was appointed to prepare rules, The head office will be in Dunedin, and a brand) office at Invercarg.il. Mr Sawera hopes to form a similar association in the Korth Island.

WEECK OF THE EMELIE Nautical Inquiry. Invercakoill, April 23, A nautical inquiry was opened at 10 a.m. to-day before Mr Uawson, R.M., and Captain Greig, assessor, into the circumstances of the wreck of tho barque Emilie,

George Green, one of the survivors' described tho particulars of the wreck. Witness considered the vessel was in a very bad state, everything about her being old and much worn. Ho made no complaints to the officials, but spoke to several people about her condition. He sailed because he had signed articles, and he was not supposed to know whether the vessel was good or bad, It is intended to give the three survivors of the barque Emilie a kit costing £l6 each, a donation of a few pounds apiece, and, if possible, to find them berths when ablo to resume duty. At tho inquest or. tho late mate of the Emilie, evidence as to the condition of the vessel was stopped, because it was stated that an inquiry would beheld, To-day Mrßorrie, Collector of Customs, informed the Nautioal Court, before whim the inquiry is going on, that the vessel being foreign-owned, section 8. of the Shipping Beamen's Act would not apply, and it was questionable whether the inquiry was legal, It was only held because all the evidence regarding the wreck had not been taken by tho coroner at the inquest on the mate, The coroner then had full power to go into all th 6 circumstances of the case.

Later. The nautical inquiry closed this afternoon. The decision of tlie Court will bo given to-morrow. The only new evidence given was that the first portion of the timber cargo was improperly stowed by being placed against the ship's skin instead of boing fended off by dunnage. This, in the opinion of the stevedore, was calculated to bring undue strain on the hull in the seaway. Another stevedore said old ships were not fit to carry red piuo timber, which he considered was as severe a cargo as railway iron on a weak hull. Four old vessels ho had loaded with red pine for Port Pirie in tho last two years had all shown signs of strain and damage. The Underwriters'; Inspector at the Bluff deposed that he was of opinion that the Bmilie was a safe risk for the class of oargo she was carrying.
