The police have discovered a, olue in the murder case of great .importance,' and they are now confident of being able .to prove that the Maori now in custody committed the murder.' It appears that the'boots which the prisoner wore when arrested have been identified as belonging to the murdered man. The deceased purchased them from the Co-operative Store, and afterward had the heels partly taken off, aud the mail who made tho alteration in the boots can identify them beyond 1 doubt. The accused states that he purohased the boots' at a certain store in Opunake, and the police are prepared to prove that he did not-, ihe police are accumulating other evidence nf a damaging oharaoter, and thero is noiv little doubt that they liave got the right man in custody. Disgraceful Milk Supply' Dpedin, April 10. At the City Council meeting to-night the Mayor explained tho steps taken with regard to the milk seizure, and ft certificate was received from the North East Valley inspector stating that tho dairy was now perfectly clean. Bomo very Btrong statements were made with regard to tho harm done by impure milk, one of tho councillors stating a patient had died in the hospital from typhoid, traceable to tho milk supply, ami others were suffering. The inspectors have been instructed to inspect all dairies iu the suburbs, and tho Bylaws Committee were instructed to frame by-laws to deal effectively with the cases, A committee was appointed to inquire iuto the complaint that Mr Fish, as Chairman, lemarkcd that tho Committee undertook works without consulting. The Committee reported that the charge was unfounded, aud as Mr Cmmond would not apologise, Mr fish has given notice that Mr Crainond bo relieved from his clut/ on the Committee,'
