News from the Islands records the wreck of tho American schooner Cassie Hay ward, on the Island, of Mangaia, on February , 4th, ; The Cassie Hayward was an American vessel under charter to Captain Piltz, and at the time of her loss was on a trading cruise among the Islands under his command. When working on the weather siie of Mangaia Island with a light wind, she ran on to a reef and became a total wreck, All hand» were saved. The hull and cargo of the Bchoonet have been sold by auction.
