Early Closing. (To the Editor,) Sir, -It is ut invent, pity that tlio various employers of labour in Miiatei'ton had not a hand in the movement made towards early closing. But is it really n fact that because a solitary individual chooses to remain open a couple of hours in the ovening to endeavour to dispose of a little surplus' Stock boycotting tactics are to be resorted to by a few covetous fellow men of business? I can hardly think it. If, however, there is any probability at all of this being tlio case, -why, in the name of all that is just, are not the sarno measures adopted by all, and the wholo of the business places kept open? Fair's fair in all things, and this would undoubtedly bo fair. The result would bo a considerable amount ofovertinu for employees at an increased rate oE wngo the relieving of the Gasworks Committee of the Borough Council of their present anxiety, and the conferring of a boon on that portion of the public who are too nervous to venture out to do their shopping before tlio shades of night fall on our lovely town.
