Several hush fires wero. raging hero on Saturday, on the Woedville road, One or two ratas came' down across the thoroughfare in the night, and at present the traffic is stopped,. Tke Eketahima Cricket Club hue at last succeeded in arranging a match with Masterton, This will bo the first of the season in Eketahuna. So far the Club has been very unfortunate, and there is no visible reason why they should not receive plenty of challenges. They have a good ground and a very strong team, and possibly it is on account of the team being so strong that they receive so few challenges.

Messrs Tnrnor & Co. have the finest crop of potatoes we have yet seen in the district. Mr Tumor went to considerable trouble and expense to import from England some specially selected seed of two or three varieties, being Champions, Magnum Bonums, and one or two other kinds.' They havo several ncros under cultivation. The English potatoes were ■planted alongside of two' Colonial varieties as a test, and although tho latter are a good crop owing to the excellent quality of the land, they look mere scrubbers beside the English crop. Thoy are all grown in drills Bft x Gin apart, and tho tops of the Home seed have completely hidden the drills, Mr Tumor estimates the crop will yield 20tons to the aero, It is very satisfactory to find ho has been so successful with his venture after going to so much trouble and oxponse.
