Carterton y^Masterton- < An afternoon match ktwoen the 1 above Clubs was played on the Park ! Oval, Mastorton, on Saturday, and [ after a close game ended in a win for ' the homo team. Messrs Comiell ami Moore captained the teams, and Mossra Eagle and Skipper officiated as umpires. Moore won the toss and took the field. The visitors made little stand against Perry's howling, and the innings' closed for the Bmall total of 47. .Acooks showed a stubborn defence, carrying his bat more than half way through the innings, and contributing the onlydouble figures to the score. Masterton responded with 59, tbero only being one double figure man (Hawkel in this innings also, Darrock, Connell and Uenall knocking" the Btumph about, the latter bowling underhand " grubbers." This innings practically decided the game, but thero being pleuty of time, the Carterton men went in again, but only succeeded in getting within two of thoir first score Connell put together 15, and Mercer was batting woll whon ho iwived a nasty knock on the arm and had to retire. The bowling honors wcro distributed among half the team. The following ai'o the scores:-
