Eketahuna Road Board.
The ordinary monthly meeting of
the above Board was held on Saturday evening last. Present: Messrs Alex Anderson (obairmaii), fleilson, Mattliesori, : Morris and Bright, , The meeting .opened with a somewhat heated discussion ro the full payment of Keester and Harding, the outcome beingjthat Mr Mattheson asked that the following protest be entered on the minutes; " I protest that'paying Keester and Harding in fill, at a" special meeting, after the objections made at the last regular msoting, was not a straightforward proceeding." '■ Correspondence was received as follows: Mr T. Baylis applied ■to be allowed to erect a gate across a public road, Permission was granted to erect same at applicant's own risk. Mr Johansberg applied to Board to be allowed to use.certain metal on the bridge, approaches, which, under his present contract he would liavo to throw away, The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer, Prom P. Carr asking three weeks
of tinie on metalling con ,raots. No grant was made. From C. Brown, asking oompenration for falling one of the road
lines. Leftover. From Bank of New Zealand, acknowledging receipt' of certain monies. ,
■ From George Franklin, enclosing bill for 85 chains of road line, and stating there were seven more to connect up section. Deoided to allow Mr Franklin to fall the sevon cliaiua at the Bame price (3s 6d per chain.) ~ ' • From -L. Atkinson, asking what amount was coining to the central road for the year. Mr Atkinson was in attendance, It was pointed out to him that thirds for 1890 were not due until July. There was only about £l2 due to the road, £6 of that had to go to Scott and French's track. Mr Atkinson aaid he was willing in future Brds
from two sections should go toward the track,
From Mr 35, G. Roberts stating it was twelve months since he had applied for aiding and culverts and nothing had yet been done.
From the Wellington Chamber of Commerce asking immediate payment of LI Is for use of room for meeting. The Clerk was instructed to inform the Chamber of Commerce that the Board never hired their room.
Mr W. T. Grundy wrote asking the Board to stump ten chains in front of his property at Parkville, It was decided to call tenders for the work. Mr Auders Andersen asked the Board to protect him from other contractors. He had. stripped certain metal and wished to prevent anyone touching it, Nothing was done in the matter. ■ Tenders were then opened. Contract No 3, (W.S.S. No l):beiug 82 chains on North Road, Jno. Riordau, LBH (accepted., P McGinly, L 329, Kenny and-Thomas, L 866 19s, Sheohan and Hamhrook, L 86114 s, Sparksman and Co, L 326, Johansen, L 872, P Carr, L 384155, Contract No 4 (W.S.S. No 1) South ltoad, Sparksman and Co, LSO (accepted), G Norman,, 164 10s, Clrisholm, L 72165, Kenny, L 79 10s, Madsen, LIOB, Andersen and Johansen, L 79, PGarr LBS. Metalling at Parkville, (85 chains) Henry Rhodes, 19s Gd per chain, (accepted), AndersAndersen, LI 2s 6d Madsen, L2, P Carr L2, Sparksman, LI Bs. Bridges contract, Mangaone Valley-and Tawataia road-Joseph Dawson £IBB (accepted); C. E. Daniell £129, (this tender, although tho lowest, was informal, not sufficient deposit beiug enclosed); Jesperaen £148; AV. Francis £145; J. McDonald £lßslos. Tho following accounts were passed for payment:—R. A. McKenzie LI 7s 4d; F.King L2l7s 9d;A. Anderson LI 7s 6d;'Martin LlOlO s; Pay ton <fc Co., L 7 8s Gd; Blundoll Bros., 17s Gd; G. Franklin L 7 17s 6d; Smith ifc Hogg L 8 13s (Id; Kenny & Thomas LGO j Goodban LlB 15s; Britt LGO; H. C. Madsen Lll 10s; J. Lower L 8; J, King L2O 4s; A, Dixon 76; G, Beard L2O 18b 9d. Tho Chairman informed the meeting that the committee appointed had arranged with Mr Byvorsen to take what land they required at 2s Gd per chain, the board to fall 8 chains wide, and also to fence tho road, The Clerk was instructed to inform .Mr Marohant of the matter, It was decided to call tenders for cleaning about 4 miles of water tables on Valley Eoad. Mr Mattlieson proposed "that as a local body we do forward a memorial to the Hon. Sir Harry Atkinson as Commissioner of Telegraphs asking that the telephone be fixed at Ekotahuna at an early date as tho want is a great' inconvenience, and that a copy of the memo be sent to Mr W. C. Smith M.H,R," The Chairman said their was another letter to read, It was from C. B, Morrißon applying to the Board for £250 alleged damage?, under the instruction of Robert Bryanft Mr Bright said, "Mr Morris would propose he got it," Mr Morris; "Morris will do nothing of the ltin(l. Four gentlomen on this Board got their leg into a hole, they would have to get it out," It was decided to allow the letter to lay on the table, - The meeting then closed,
