The Racing Conference.

Pupnis, December 3. At the conference of tho delegates of the racing clubs on Monday evening, tho press wore not admitted. Captain Russell was president, and the delegates were—Auckland, Mr E. O. Mitchelson, Christcburch, Messrs G. E. Gifford, G. G. Stead, C. H. Williams; Greymouth, Messrs FW. Lahman, J, Mitcholl; Wanganui. Mr J, Paul, Danedin, Messrs J, MoLean, G, Gourlay, Mr J. A, Cook, Wade appeared as a delegate pf the Westland Club, and the Chapm decidod he might be heard, and after j|o and Mr Lahman had spokon, a resolution was carried that arbitrators be appointed, with full power,to inquire into and settle tho dispute between the Greymouth and Westland Clubs as to which should be the Metropolitan Club of the Westland provincial district, or to alter theboundarios of the district. The Committee of theDunedin Jockey Club wore requested to nominate two gentlemen to act as abitrators, with power to call in a third, and report on or before the Ist Maroh, 1889, A motion to alter the rule compelling clubs holding two meetings to give £2OO per diem in stakes, and making the sum £l5O, was lost, only the punedin delegate voting, It was resolved, "That tho question of altering rule IG2 bo refered to the Metropolitan Clubs for consideration and their opinions bo reported to tho next racing conference." It was decided to recommend tho Metropolian Clubs to appoint delegates to the conference at Wellington during thosesssion of Parliament to consider the question of tho formation of a New Zealand Jockey Club and other business It was resolved that when the Metropolitan Clubs desire to bring up any important alteration of tho rules, notioe be sent to tho Club one month before the day fixed.

On Mr McLean's motion to alter rule 22, the voting was-Ayes: ,McLein, Geurlay; noes; Delegates from Canterbury, Auckland, Wanganui, Hawke3 Bay, Greymouth, In consequence of this decision tho proposed motion against limiting the amount of the stakes to be given for one day's meeting in any year to 4100 was not put, Mr Stead's motion referring to another conference the question dealing with defaulters, was dirried.
