Work lias been begun on llio Eiffel Tower, but the structure will not be complete for at least a fortnight. It will be 180 ft in height, and 110 ft np will be a platform capable of contain, ing about 10 passengers, Visitors will not bo able to ascend any higher. The towor is a speculation of the Otis Lift Company, who are introducing their celebrated lifts into NcwZealand. The first of the kind was opened at the Grand Hotel one day this week, Tho lifts of the towor will be worked by a special steam engine imported for the- purpose, It is calculated that hydraulic machinery would be too expensive for so temporary an affair.
