lu one respect ShuHespoavo docs nut not reflect the Elizabethan era. While ho gloruilsly ahnmidß in ifs fresh and exuberant life, there is not a trace in him of its peculiar heroism, of its maritime adventure, of its battles against Spain and the Armada. There are passages and divine passages about the sea and sen-faring in general; there is nothing about enterprise such as that of Dra(ie, Raleigh, and Cavendish, or a/bout the world of wonders which it was opening. A voyago to the Bermudas, it is true, furpished the hint for Prospero's island, but the " Teinpest." is a talo ofeiioliniifcflient, not of adventure. Wo seom here to see a limitation in the otherwise all-embracing ndiid.-Ooldwln Smith.
