SUPREME COURT, Waxganui, October 23. The civil business of tbe Supreme Court still continues. To-iky the case of Toko lleihnna v. Moore mid others was begun, and is exciting some interest. Tins is a case in which it is alleged that .James Moore, of Kni-iwi purchased a block of land from the Natives belonging to a miner for 10s per acre, wlieu the trustees had an offer of'2os, and that there was undue pressure brought to bear to induce the trustees to do so. Waxuaxm, October 23, At the Resident .Magistrate's Court to-day R. W. Skeates and his wife sued Charles Hugo, proprietor of the Buffalo Minstrels, for .£26 lis for expenses hack to Melbourne, The solicitor for the plaintiffs explained that the ease was based on a written agreement. Mr Hugo, the defendant, appeared in person and offered to pay the plaintiffs'fares back to Melbourne via Sydney, as had been arranged by the plaintiff himself when acting as his (defendant's) manager, The Resident Magistrate thought this n fair offer, but the solicitor for the plaintiff preferred to go on with the case and not rely on a mere verbal promise. Ho would ask for the money unless tickets were produced Mr Hugo's manager said lie was prepared to give a guarantee, but this was declined by the solicitor, who asked for judgment for X2(J 10s, but undertook that if they received the tickets that day to forego all but £2 for board and lodging. Mr Hugo thought they should take bis word, and that heshould be allowed to get the tickets and not be forced to pay for others when he had already paid their return fairs to Sydney, and expected a wire from the Union Compony saying the tickets were all right. Judgment for plaintiff' for 120 10s, to be reduced to £3 10s if the tickets from Wanganui aro given, or to £2 if the tickets are made out from Wanganui to Melbourne, Costs of Court 303, solicitor's fees two guineas, and one witness £l.
