The human remains found on tlio bank of tlio Okuku river, near Loburn, liavo been identified by the wifo of the missing man as those of William Ferguson, wlio lived near Belfast, but owned a section of land close to where tho skelston was discovered. He visited tho place some months ago, but never. returned to liis home. He was reported to the police as missing, jind a search was made, but without avail. Ah inquest will bo held on Monday. The Grand Lodge Movement. Dunedin, October 18, :! At a meeting of the Masonic Union to receive the report of the committee, it was resolved, by 25 to 9, to adopt the report, several not voting. The report, which mis already been telegraphed, was in snlittnnca that no union will be consuumted until there is greater harmony on tlie question of a Grand Lodge, which cannot be obtained without further consideration and negotiation. The report is to te sent to the various District Grand Lodges and subordinate lodges, and, pending consideration, the Grand Lodge formed in Wellington will not be oouiitenanced, AthleticsCimisTcnujicn, October 18, At a meeting of tho Amateur Athletic Association bold to-night, it was resolved that members of the Club i affiliated to any Australian amateur athletij association, duly accredited by their Association, shall be eligible to compete at tlia approaching Championship Meeting at bunedin, provided they fall within the definition of' amateur accepted by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. At the request of the Dunedin Club, it was resolved to add a Two i Hundred and Fifty Yards Champion ship to the programme. Drainage Works. Auckland, October 18. . The question of competing the city drainage has been before the Municipal Council The Finance i Committee estimate that if the present overdraft is not increased between this date ;and tlio 31st March, there will be £2OOO available for drainage, and between March and December a further sum of .£2OOO. After some discussion, the Council postponed further consider tion of the subject. Supreme Court. Auckland, October 18, In the supremo Court to-day Mr Button moved that the Court settle the list of contributors liable under the liquidation of the Waikato Coal and Shipping Company. An affidavit filed by W.S.Laurie set forth the ground on which he and others denied their liability as contributors. He relied on a resolution of the Company in 1883, which offered 24,500 shares to be taken up by tho shareholders, and were afterward taken up and allotted on the condition that no calls should be made on these shares. His Honor ordered, after some argument, that these parties bo declared contributors in their own right,thus leaving thoin, on receiving notice of tlio call, to fight out the question which they submitted existed between them and the Bank of New Zealand,
Suspected InfanticideWellington, Saturday. An inquest was hold today on tho body of a child found in Nairn street yesterday nnrning. A verdict of "death from natural causes" was returned. There was nothing to cause any suspicion of foul play, and it is supposed the infant died soon after birth, and was exposed to save funeral exponsos, It,is a common thing for doctors to bo as-Ited by poor peopse whether they cannot bury their dead children themselves in the back gardens. No clue has been found to tho parents in this instance.
