Mabton, Saturday. The Hon Mr Mitchelson attended a Maori meeting yesterday atOnepulti to hear the grievances of tho natives with regard to their having been left out iu the partition of the Waimarino, Taupo, and other blocks. Several tribes were represented. After hearing a number, of speakers, the Minister promised to endeavor to get i rehearing of the matter in dispute in Taupo, but thought no redress was obtainable in the other blocks. The chiefs _ generally praised the native administration of the present Government, Laborers Wanted. Napier, October 4. Farmers and country settlors here look forward to shearing and harvest with apprehension of a great scarcity of labor. An unprecedented area is in crop, ploughs 'being at work in every direction, One farmer haa been advertising for tenders for harvesting 500 or 000 acres of grain crops, but not a single tonder has been received. Mr Lewis, Under-Secretary of Nativo Afinirs, has arrived at Hotorna. IJo called a meeting of the Natives, and, on behalf of tho Government, offered to purchase Eotorua township, of about 3000 acres, for £5500. The Maoris, however, said they wanted £IO,OOO, and tho meeting adjourned.
