EKETAHUNA.

(From Our Own Correspondent), A special meeting of the Eketahnna School Committee was held on Friday, 20th instant, to investigate curtain charges against tho master, All the members were present, The Chairman moved that tho pres3 representatives and strangers be excluded from the meeting, on the ground that the charges preferred against die master were of such a nature that tlioy should not go before tho public. Mr Selby moved an amendment, That tho press and strangers be allowed to remain, This was a public question, and they were a public body, The Chairman; There may bo voally nothing in tho charges, Mr Selby: The'u why be afraid of letting tne public know? In any case, tho public have a right, to know what takes placo here, The amendment was then put to the meeting and lost, and the members of tho press and tho public left tho room, I learn that a considerable amount of discussion took placa after, with the result that the consideration of the charges against tho master were adjourned to the ordinary open meeting on September 30th. As this is a public question, 1 trust that parents of children attending the school will be present at the meeting to hear the investigation.

Mr Hayward waited on tho Eketahuna Road Board in reference to erecting the swing bridge over the Makakahi river, The Chairman stajed that tho present site ''as altogether too low, Mr Hayward said a hotter site could be got furlherdown where tho banks are higher, That it placed the residents of that end of Parkvillo at a disadvantage even when tho main bridge would bo completed, now that the post office is romoyed. Tho Chairman said if the Parkville people would send in a petition requesting the Board to erect the awing bridge, the Board would do it without a doubt.

Tenders will be called by the Board for formation of about 5 miles of road at Mangaonc, for formation and metalling of road from Mr Jones' store to the Makakalii bridge, also for the formation and metalling of about 15 miles in the Wellington Special Settlement, and for two lengths of road about ten chains each, north and south end of Newman, Tbo Board cannot go on with the road work iu Purkville through incomplete survey. With the above work and the formation and metalling of tho Eketahuna township road a great impotus will be given to trade. Well, we want something of the sort to cnablu us to recover from tho loss austaiuedthrough defaulting debtors,

At tho auction salo of tho effects of the bankrupt estate of Mr Chamberlain; tbo private residence, Alfrodton Eoad, was knocked down to Mr 'Aulin, storekeeper, for the sura of £l2 10s. Weather permitting, no doubt thero will boa largo gathering of the fair sox.
