Sudden Deaths, Gisborne, Thursday. - An old gentleman named Hobert Preston, who, with his family, recently arrived ; n this district Irom Otago, died suddenly yesterday. He walked some distance out in the countiy to visit a friends, and was in the lattev's orchard looking at tho trees when ho fell dead, Death was tho result of apoplexy or paralysis, Woodville, Thursday, Captain Bryant, engineer for the Mubaialitira Copper Mino, was found dead on the back staircase of the Masonic Hotel this morning. Ho arrived by train from Napier last night, Heart disease is supposed to be the cause of his death,

The usual half-yearly meeting of the proprietors ol the Bank of New Zealand will bo hold at tho Banking House, Queen-street, on Thursday, the 24th October, at half-past 2 p,m, SuicideDunedin, September 11 A man named Arthur Empson committed suicide in a most determined manner at C'avesham this morning. Ho refused a cup of tea in bed from his wife, knocking it out of her hand, He then got up and went into to tho kitchen, where he took up a bread knife and mado a wound in his throat. Sho ran out for assistance, when lie appears to havo taken a a combined knife and saw, and used the latter to make a horrible wound, A neighbour was so terrified that he went off for the police and medical assitance, and on his return the man was dead, Empson had a station for some years at. Kangitata, Canterbury; he had been in Western Australia, and only came to Dunedin a few weeks ago. Ho has shown signs of insanity for some time, but his wife thought she could control him,

R, Monro, who is chairman of the Ministers' Association and headed the deputation to meet Sullivan last week, when the latter gavo him two minutes to leave the room, gave notice of motion as follows : That he would call attention to the fact' that a person calling Himself Mr G. F. Sullivan had occupied tyo'pii]pits in this Presbytery, and that the ministers in whose pulpits he preached bo asked toßalisfy the Presbytery as to his character and dootriae,"
