ENGLISH. London, Sept 10. In consequence of the strike, the wool sales havo been postponed until the 24th inat. All arrivals will then be available, AUSTRALIAN. Melbourne, Sept 11. In the House of Assembly the tariff alterations arc under consideration. The increased duty on barley and oats has been agreed to, Sydney, September 11. Tho farewell banquet to Admiral Faifax last night ■ was a brilliant success, hi referring to the defence of the colonies, Admiral Fairfax said those af Victoria were the most complete, New Zealand had accomplished much, and whatshe had done wasdoao well, New South Wales, ho thought, was behind with her defences, while Queensland had done little or nothing. He paid a high tribute of praise to the naval and military forces. In wishing lliera farewell, tho admiral expressed regret at his departure from Australia,
la the House of Assembly last night, the bill to abolish flogging was rejected. A. tender has been aoeepted for raising the steamer Centennial.
