EKETAHUNA.

(From Our Own Correspondent), The weather for the last fow.days has been very inclement, cold and wet, with high winds. A grand fancy dress ball was givea m the new Hall on the 23rd, notwithstanding the inclement weather there was a large number of the fair sex, Dancing was kept up to the early hours of the morning, At tho Road Board meeting 011 Saturday a considerable amount of discussion took place in regard to tho action of tiio ranger. Two gentlomen attended tho Board on the subject and stated that the rangor was allowing favoritism h some owners of cattlo; that in fact they had scon the ranger taking cattle to tho pound and passing cattle on the road, and that they requested the Road Board to write to the County Council requesting then to disperse with the service ot the ranger. Mr Von Ileden: I cannot see what fault there can be with the ranger, it would be impossible for tlio ranger to ploase everyone. If the present ranger was dispensed with and another appointed the same complaints would be made. Mr Bright (member of the Eoad Board)\ Mine were the cattlo alluded to as passed by tho ranger on the road. I may state to the Board that I met the ranger driving niy cattle to the pound, I stopped him and paid the fees, Tho Chairman; Mr Selby, if you think that the ranger is exceeding his duty you have your remedy at law. At present j cannot see that yon liayo any just grounds for tho charge against the ranger.

The road from here to Alfredton is ill a liorribto stato, if I can judge by the appearance of horse and horseman. It is almost impossible to tell which is the liorso and which is the horsenmu. In fact, traffic on the Alfredton road is alnpt auspuM.
