An Entertainment at Carterton.
A very successful concert and entertainment was held in tboLyceinu Hall, Carterton, last night, and the liberal and admirable programme drew a very considerable audionco, the hall being throe parts full, The front seats were all occupied there not beioe. a vacant chair in that part of the room. St. Mark's Church, hi aid of which the concert was organised, should benefit very materially. The Carterton Glee Club mado their appearanco on the occasion, and their vocal contributions were extremely pleasing, suowi.ig cvidcuce of careful practice, and what is more to the point, a sympathetic rendering of the music they sang. ThcQuintotte Party also scored a well doservod success. Songs were sung by Messrs A. L, Webster, S, 11. Wickerson, Moncrieff, Thos. Eathbone and D. J. Dull', They each mado themselves popular with "the audience, and npplauso was liberally bestowed, Tba Groytown Negro Melodists whoso comic items were interspersed throughout thoprogrammo.created a decidedly favourable impression, mora especially in the chiu'acter sketches of Mr D, J, Duff, who is almost a whole " show" in himself, the grotcamie "ftinniositios' of Messrs Dull'mid Webster in their "musical moments," and in tho two most absurd farces "Undo Tom's Cabin in Five Minutes" and "The Chinee Servants." Tho Greytown people at some trouble to come to this concert, and when asked to give a performance readily responded by lending their valuablo services in the present joint entertainment. We wero, therefore, glad to see that they had it good audience and one that seemed thoroughly to enjoy itself.
