TEE KAIWAIIRA MURDER CASE'
Mr Jellicoe Moves.
Wellington, Mr Jellicoe, on behalf of Ghoraia, has laid information of perjury against Inspector Thomson and Detectives Benjamin and Campbell, in connection with the evidence given in the Hawkings murder case.
Fielding Steeplechase.

The Fielding Steeplechase was won by Pialto, Sir Garnet second, Lucky Glitters third.
A Painful Experiment.
Nelson, August 14. A man named Robert Davidson found a dynamite cap, and being ignorant as to what it was, proceeded to a' careful examination with a needle; tho following explosion surprised him, but it also blew away the top of one thumb nnd a finger, He was taken to the hospital, where an operation was performed, the first joints of the finger and thumb being removed.
Alleged Sheen StealingNelson, August 14. John Powell, a resident of Wakapunka' was arrested to-day on n charge of sheep stealing. Mr c. Neville found the skin of one of hiß sheep with a bullet hole through it, and gave information to the police, when an officer discovered port of the carcase with a bullet hole in it at Powell's house, The ajcused has been remanded,
Fatal Accidents. Wellington, Thursday. Mrs liuntz, of Petone, who was knocked down by a runaway horse a few days ago, died this morning.
At the inquest on James Mullen, a fireman, who fell down a stoko hole a few days ago, the jury hrought in a verdict of accidental death.
The Vacant Judgeship.

Mr E. T. Connolly, solicitor, of Blenheim, formerly Attorney General, has been offered and just accepted I he judgeship rendered vacant by the death of Justice Gillios,

The Council- of the Gospel Temperance Mission have adopted a petition requesting Parliament not to make any amendment or alterations in 68 and7s of the Dispensing Act. The barque Kolla, which is loaded at Kaipara for Loudon, has a cargo consisting of 536,000 ft of sawn and 180,000 ft of baulk timber.
At the inquest on Johnston, who died suddenly at Kaukapakapa, the jury passed a' rider expressing an opinion that hotelkeepers should be careful in the sale of liquor to persons who were known to be drunkards.
