Carterton, August 15,1889. Sin —Allow me to call your attention to the following local which appeared in yesterday's Daily :" The Carterton tradesmen are going to meet tonight to discuss the credit system, and to consider the desirability of forming a local trade union for the conservation of the commercial interests," Sir, allow me to contradict the above statement as being falso, as sueli was not the intention the meeting was called for, but merely to discuss tjre brigade matters, such as gaining information as to what amount ot subscriptions could be raised, and the best ways and means of working a brigade for the convenience of the Carterton settlers, I am, &c,, W. Catt, Sec, Early Closing Afsociation.
